Meet the Teachers

Dr. Mary Palmer is a Professor and former Dean of the University of Central Florida College of Education.  She specializes in arts education and the integration of the arts in all learning.  Palmer is a Founder of Florida's Arts for a Complete Education program, designed to improve and enhance arts education in schools and communities throughout Florida.  She is founder and director of Connect with Music
Andrea Tobin   A "Teacher of the Year", Andrea Tobin has taught instrumental music in Florida's public schools for 18 years.  While fostering a love of music in her 4-year-old daughter, Andrea continues her own music performance, is an active adjudicator and clinician, teaches private music lessons, and pursues her master's degree in Music Education at UCF.Andrea is also active in the music ministry at First Baptist Church of Orlando, where she plays in the orchestra and sings in the ladies' ensemble, HeartSong.  She and her husband have been teaching 6th grade Sunday School for 10 years.

Catherine Tanner holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from the University of Miami, and a Master of Arts in Music Education from the University of Central Florida. Her teaching background includes elementary, middle and high school. After serving as the Director of Admission and Recruitment at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. She has just relocated back to the Orlando area with her husband John. She is an adjunct professor in music education at the University of Central Florida. Katie Swain is a UCF graduate student in music education.  In her private music studio, she teaches middle and high school students to play the oboe.  Katie is an active oboe and English horn performer herself.  In her work with the National Urban Special Education Leadership program, Katie connects to education leaders and schools through Florida.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sheryl D. Remekie Carbonell is the Choir Director at Park Lake Presbyterian Church in Orlando. She is the founder and the former Director of Choral Activities at Maitland Middle School where she was a Teacher of the Year Finalist in 1998. Sheryl is an active member of ACDA, FMEA, and FVA and has served as a choral adjudicator as well as an Honor Choir clinician across the state. She sings with the Orlando Opera Company and is a graduate student in Music Education at UCF. Sheryl is Mom to two energetic young boys.
